Welcome to the 5th Annual Kansas Winter Q.

I hope this Holiday season was enjoyed by all, and want to wish everyone a successful New Year and BBQ season. The pits have been sitting in the snow, and I want to remind you the opportunity to melt the ice will be here soon. The 5th Annual Kansas Winter Q will be held February 24th & 25th, 2012; I am officially inviting you to start off your 2012 BBQ season by joining us in brisk Great Bend Kansas. Fifty nine brave teams joined us for 2011, I would love to fill the house, so please enter and enjoy the fun.

We will begin with the appetizer contest. The appetizer’s can be prepared ahead of time and brought to the contest. Contestants can enter more than 1 appetizer; also can serve on your own plate. The appetizer contest is FREE. Please bring 6 of each appetizer to be judged and an additional 40 for the cooking teams to appreciate. The judging will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the ARMORY BUILDING. The Cooking Teams Social will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the remaining appetizers to be brought to the EXPO 1 BUILDING. Adult beverages will be provided in the EXPO 1 BUILDING.

First Place in the rib category wins 4 Yokohama A/T-S Light Truck Tires. Also, a drawing will be held from the cook teams and the winner (excludes the Rib Winner) will Receive 4 Cooper A/T3 Light Truck Tires.

Back by popular demand this year, Trash Can Chili Feed. Please bring a Quart container of chili that was prepared ahead of time. We will put all the chili in roasters to reheat. We will provide bowls, utensils, crackers and ECT for the feed. We will start the Chili Social at 7:00 p.m. in the EXPO 1 BUILDING. We will also hold our cook’s meeting at this time. We will hold our annual auction at this time.

We will kick off the Saturday morning with the annual Community Breakfast held in the EXPO 1 BUILDING. Kent will cook fresh from his farm, 40 Pounds of HAM STEAKS and also provide the Scrambled Eggs for this event. Please check the KCBS BBQ FORUM for the annual signup sheet for what you want to bring. The breakfast will begin around 7:30 a.m.
